Homemade Chicken & Veggie Pet Food For Cats & Dogs

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs (fully cooked)
  • 1 cup cooked pumpkin (plain, no added sugar or spices)
  • ½ cup cooked carrots (finely chopped or mashed)
  • ½ cup cooked peas (optional)
  • 1 boiled egg (chopped)
  • ½ cup cooked white rice or quinoa
  • 1 tablespoon salmon oil or fish oil (for omega-3 fatty acids)
  • Calcium supplement (per your vet’s recommendation, especially important for cats)
  • Taurine supplement (mandatory for cats — amount per vet's guidance)

Instructions:

  1. Fully cook the chicken by boiling, baking, or poaching. Allow to cool and dice or shred.
  2. Cook the rice or quinoa according to package instructions.
  3. Steam or boil the carrots and peas until soft, then chop finely.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, pumpkin, carrots, peas, egg, and rice.
  5. Add the fish oil and any supplements (calcium, taurine).
  6. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution.
  7. Portion into daily servings and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze in individual portions.

Feeding Notes:

  • Cats require taurine, so do not skip this supplement for cats.
  • Always introduce any new food gradually.
  • Portion sizes will vary depending on pet size, age, and health — consult your vet.
